Pardon my apathy

I am unashamedly apolitical. It's not that I don't care, it's just I only have so much energy to exert on the world.

After so many years of a job that had me so entrenched in world politics, I am done. It is very easy to become fed up when you have to schedule bathroom breaks around the latest coup. I no longer deal with that. When I left active duty, I considered going into the civilian sector in the same capacity. I looked at my family and decided they were more important to me.

I focus on trying to improve my little corner of the world. I recycle, economize, "victory" garden, support small, local business and generally try to be a good citizen. It brings me more joy and less stress than trying to save the world, one political coup at a time.

Captain America can keep his mask & shield.

I don't think everyone needs to work for campaigns and get people to sign petitions. What I hope is that everyone take an interest in what are the issues (and I know you are aware of them) and make an informed decision come election time. Part of the fun of being in a representative style of democracy is that we don't have to be politically active. That is what we pay the politicians to be. If we don't like what they do, we vote against them and hope more people agree with us than don't.

One of the beautiful things about our country is that, generally speaking, we *can* disagree and not have violence erupt. Also, so far, we have always had peaceful transitions of political leadership. No Coups, yet...Knock on wood.

No *bloody* coups at least!! Our government is such a dynamic creation. Our elected leaders are up for our approval every few years. That keeps a little integrity, I hope.

I do keep up with politics; I am just not political. This is indeed an interesting election. November will be rather exciting...
