I won't be using it anymore. If there are any slavagable parts, use them. What's left, cremate and till into my garden.

As a small child in New Hampshire, snow seem to be an integral part of the season. Snowball fights, tabogan sliding, ice skating, 'leather apron' treats and sleigh rides. Ah, the sleigh rides! One of our neighbours had a dairy farm and a team of Belgian draft horses. He didn't need them for his business, as he had a couple of nice refrigerated trucks. But being New Hampshire, there were times when the trucks couldn't go as well as the horses. And he didn't just deliver milk! Every year, he would hitch up the horses, dress all in fur and Saint Nick finery, and deliver toys!

During Christmas break, farm chores allowing, Mr. Dairy Farmer would hitch the horses to the sleigh. In my child's perspective, it was HUGE - the Belgians looked like normal sized horses pulling it. We would get rides through the countryside; no sound but the swish of the runners, snow-muffled hoofbeats, and the fine jingle of silver sleighbells. I felt as though I were in a different world and time. Truly magical.

I remeber a trip to Niagra Falls. We were able to tour the caverns under the Falls at the time. I remember going under the guard rail/fence to get closer to the water & almost giving my Grandmother a heart attack in the process. I am told this was just shy of my second birthday.

pre-first grade, I vividly remember talk about the Viet Nam war. My father was there. One of my Mom's friends lost her husband when I was about six.

The other event that solidified the world view for me was the Munich Olympic massacre of Isreali athletes. I cried for someone else's pain & lost some innocence.

I have thought on this one... I had once been compared to the Vorpal Rabbit in that infamous movie. Aw, such a cute little thing...WAIT - nasty, gnashing teeth... I may seem quiet to those who do not know me, but I can be rather fierce.

[Error: unknown template qotd]We are keeping our celebration low-key this year. We had thought about doing http://www.firstnighttacoma.org/ but we decided against it. Mostly because the weather will be extremely windy, wet and cold. Having FMS, that would just make me miserable & out of commission for a few days. Not a great way to ring in the New Year.

So tonight it will be dim sum and other finger foods for dinner, a few good movies and sparkling aplle juice (served in champagne flutes, or course) for the boys. My hubby & I will probably forgo the wine. We'll all chat a bit about the year past and the year to come. We don't really make resolutions, but we do think of things we would like to do or improve upon in the coming year. No ruminating!

[Error: unknown template qotd] my security. A few years ago, bmy home was burgled, in spite of a house sitter & security system. Perhaps it was because of the inept sitter - who knows for certain. Most of the items were recovered a few days later. We put things back in drawers and reconnected electronics, but the fragility of my security remained. I am now much more aware of home security & let our neighbourhood watch group know if we are going away.
